Staff Accountant (Level 2)

Summary

As a senior accountant you will support the firm’s mission by:

Ø  Accurately and efficiently preparing financial statements, tax returns and other analytical and informational documents for our clients;

Ø  Identifying potential accounting and tax issues and communicating recommendations to the firm’s partners and clients clearly and effectively;

Ø  Continuing existing business and client relationships through outstanding service, and initiating new opportunities and relationships wherever possible;

Ø  Assisting in the development and training of our junior team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

o    Prepare federal and state tax returns for Baratz & Associates clients, including corporate and partnership tax returns for business clients as well as individual tax returns.

o    Prepare formal compilation and review financial statements and footnotes (GAAP and OCBOA).

o    Plan and manage assignments involving other team members effectively in order to meet client deadlines and requirements. Ability to multi-task with accuracy.

o    Support the firm’s partners in addressing complex client issues by applying analytical skills, performing research, etc.

o    Initiate and maintain proactive communication with firm’s clients and partners to deliver outstanding service and respond to client accounting and tax needs.

o    Assist in development and training of junior staff, including delegation of work as appropriate and follow up on completion and accuracy. 

o    Participate in goal setting and planning activities; monitor and track results.

o    Attend firm-sponsored events, meetings and functions.

o    Initiate new business opportunities for both existing and potential clients to support the revenue growth of the firm.

o    Comply with and support Baratz and Associates policies and procedures, core values and Mission Statement.

       o    Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing issues and recommendations to partners and clients.

Education, Certifications and/or Experience

  •   Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  •   Has obtained or is actively pursuing CPA certification.
  •   At least 5+ years of experience in public accounting.
  •   Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel/Outlook/Word, experienced with accounting and tax software preferably Thomson Reuters CS suite (UltraTax CS, CS Accounting, Fixed Assets CS).
  •   Required to complete 40 hours of Continuing Professional Education annually.
  •   Have identified areas of interest for future specialization.
